About the class

Regulated by the Department of Commerce and Insurance, APPS Unarmed Guard Training will prepare you for an exciting career within the security industry. Whether you are pursuing a career as a static guard or wish to work your way to executive security specialist, everyone must begin somewhere. APPS’ Unarmed Guard course far exceeds the state requirements and is specifically designed to prepare you for a wide range of roles in the security industry. The intense 4-hour curriculum will provide a solid foundation to build your career. APPS Academy is highly regarded as one of the most professional and comprehensive Security Officer schools in Tennessee.  


Training Requirements: All students must complete a 4 hour course which includes: 

  • Orientation

  • Legal powers and limitations of a security guard/officer

  • Emergency procedures

  • General duties

  • A written examination covering these subjects


DURATION: 4 hours


REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:

  • Snacks and/or drinks

  • Notebook and pen

INFORMATION COVERED IN THE CLASS BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Why your image is important to the public and your company

  • How your actions can place civil & criminal liability on you & your company

  • Report writing

  • Civil and criminal laws and legal obligations as a security officer or supervisor under Title 62-39 and 40 of the T.C.A. Codes

  • Powers of arrest and the security officer

  • Why arrest and use of force is always a last resort

  • Basic First Aid

  • Security Guard Emergency Preparedness

  • Officer survival/patrol procedures


REQUIREMENTS

  • Be at least 18 years of age for registration as an unarmed security guard.

  • Be a citizen of the United States or a resident alien.

  • Not have been declared by any court of competent jurisdiction incompetent by reason of mental defect or disease unless a court of competent jurisdiction has since declared the applicant competent;

  • If convicted in any jurisdiction of any of the crimes listed in this subdivision (4), have completed a serving sentence or court-ordered probation at least five (5) years prior to application. Conviction of the following crimes shall disqualify an applicant, subject to the conditions stated in this section:(A) Any felony; or(B) Any misdemeanor involving:(i) Shooting a firearm or other weapon;(ii) Shoplifting;(iii) Assault and battery or other act of violence against persons or property;(iv) Crimes involving the sale, manufacture or distribution of controlled substances, controlled substance analogs, drugs or narcotics;(v) Theft of property; or(vi) Theft of services;

  • Not be suffering from habitual drunkenness or narcotics addiction or dependence;

  • Not have any disability that, in the opinion of the commissioner, prevents the applicant from performing the duties of a security guard/officer; and

  • Be of good moral character.

  • Submit electronic fingerprints.

  • Must meet the statutory training requirements
