About the class

Businesses are fast learning the value and importance of hiring Security to protect their people and assets. They also know having an Armed Officer is a major responsibility.  


The APPS Armed Guard Course is the premier and most sought out training Academy Certification in Tennessee. We combine class room instruction with our state-of-the-art virtual simulator providing realistic scenarios to create a more comprehensive and robust course that far exceeds industry standards. Combined with our additional voluntary Medical First Responder course, you will graduate well prepared and well ahead of the standard Armed Guard courses. The intense 16-hour curriculum provides the confidence required to carry a firearm in pursuit of a professional career in the Security Specialist Industry.  

Training Requirements: An armed guard must complete four hours in the classroom covering: 

  • Orientation

  • Legal powers and limitations of a security guard/officer

  • Emergency procedures

  • General duties


An armed guard must complete eight additional hours in the classroom covering: 

  • Legal limitations on the use of a firearm 

  •  Handling of a firearm

  • Safety and maintenance of firearms


An armed guard must complete four additional hours on the shooting range: 

  • Marksmanship training / achieve a minimum of 70% on any silhouette target course approved by the commissioner


DURATION: 16 hours / 2 days


PREREQUISITE: Solid grasp on firearm safety and handling

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:

  • Reliable Firearm  (Centerfire only, no rimfire handguns/ firearms available for rent)   for every additional firearm added to license- $25/firearm

  • 2 Magazines (Minimum)

  • Outside the Waistband Holster (if you own your firearm)

  • Rugged Belt

  • Spare Magazine Holder

  • Eye and Ear Protection

  • Rugged/Comfortable Clothes and Shoes

  • 50 rounds of ammunition; 5 rounds of which need to be self defense/ duty rounds (ammunition for purchase available if needed)

  • Please clean your gun in advance of the course or bring your gun cleaning kit with you

  • Notebook and pen

Special Note:   • This is not an introductory class. Students must possess and demonstrate basic, safe gun handling. Failure to meet this requirement will result in removal from the course.


It is the responsibility of the "Trainee" to submit the application to the State of Tennessee along with the applicable fee.

 If you fail the shooting qualification for the Armed Guard or Armed Guard Recertification Class, you will have one (1) opportunity to reshoot. The fee is  $40.00  and the qualification course must be reshot within  30 days  of your original class date. You  must  schedule  your  reshoot with the front desk  by calling 615-360-6002.  





REQUIREMENTS

  • Be at least 21 years of age for registration as an armed security guard.

  • Be a citizen of the United States or a resident alien.

  • Not have been declared by any court of competent jurisdiction incompetent by reason of mental defect or disease unless a court of competent jurisdiction has since declared the applicant competent;

  • If convicted in any jurisdiction of any of the crimes listed in this subdivision (4), have completed a serving sentence or court-ordered probation at least five (5) years prior to application. Conviction of the following crimes shall disqualify an applicant, subject to the conditions stated in this section:        (A) Any felony; or        (B) Any misdemeanor involving:           (i) Shooting a firearm or other weapon;           (ii) Shoplifting;           (iii) Assault and battery or other act of violence against persons or property;           (iv) Crimes involving the sale, manufacture or distribution of controlled substances, controlled substance analogs, drugs or narcotics;           (v) Theft of property; or           (vi) Theft of services;

  • Not be suffering from habitual drunkenness or narcotics addiction or dependence;

  • Not have any disability that, in the opinion of the commissioner, prevents the applicant from performing the duties of a security guard/officer;

  • Be of good moral character;

  • Submit electronic fingerprints;

  • Must meet the statutory training requirements.


RETURN & REFUND POLICY

  • Should you choose to cancel at your own discretion, you will not be refunded.. If you are unable to attend the course date, you must give at least a 48 hour notice, in which you may apply your funds towards an upcoming course (pending availability) within a twelve (12) month timeframe. *If  there is a waiting list for a class and we are able to fill your spot upon cancellation, we will issue you a refund, minus a  10% processing fee.

  • In the event A.P.P.S. has to cancel your course for any reason, you will have the choice to receive a refund or course credit for future use.

Nonrefundable Deposit

  • All sales of goods and services are final. If you fail to attend the purchased course on the specified date you selected, you have up to 60 days to re-schedule for another training date.

You must register at least 24 hours prior to the course selected.


PURCHASER AGREEMENT


By completing this purchase, you confirm that you:   1. Are able to speak and comprehend the English Language. 2.  Are able to read, write and understand Standard English text. 3.  Are qualified to complete the Unarmed Security Officer and/or Armed Guard training in accordance to the State of Tennessee Private Protective Services requirements.   4.  Are qualified to work in the State of Tennessee and meet all Citizenship Eligibility Requirements in accordance to the State of Tennessee Private Protective Services requirements.   5.  Students seeking an unarmed security license are required to pass a written test, scoring 70% or greater to successfully complete the Unarmed Exam.   6.  We strive to have fully successful completion and registration for license, however, we make no guarantees.     It is the Student’s responsibility to submit the licensure application to the State of Tennessee along with any applicable fees.
