Active School Shooter Response

Learning to respond to Active Threat situations has become an unfortunate necessity in today’s society, with fatal consequences for the unprepared.

The APPS Active Threat Response course is an intensive eight (8) hour classroom/practical application/firing range course designed for Security Guards/Officers in pursuit of advanced level training in responding to active threat situations in an academic environment. This course is not recommended for inexperienced firearm users. This course explores the additional danger statistically inherent to academic institutions at higher risk for active threat attacks, and the use of a firearm along with the mindset required to resolve high threat dynamic problem-scenarios where preservation of life often requires the immediate neutralization of active assailants.

This physically demanding course involves academic lecture, practical skill exercises, force-on-force training, and live fire range components.

Training Requirements:Anyone interested in providing Armed Security for a school in TN pursuant to Public Acts Chapter 367 (2023) passed by the Tennessee General Assembly requiring active shooter training for every licensed armed security guard who provides security or patrol services in a public school, public charter school, private school, or church-related school.

Class Begins: 9:00AM

PREREQUISITE: Solid grasp on firearm safety and handling

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:

Reliable Centerfire Firearm (firearms available for rent) every additional firearm added to registration $25/ weapon

2 Magazines (Minimum)

Outside the Waistband Holster (If you own your own firearm)

Rugged Belt

Spare Magazine Holder

Eye and Ear Protection

Rugged/Comfortable Clothes and Shoes

50 rounds of ammunition; 5 rounds of which need to be self defense/duty rounds  (available for purchase if needed)

Please clean your gun in advance of the course or bring your gun cleaning kit with you

Notebook and pen

Restricted Items:• Serpa Type, Shoulder, or Small of the Back Holsters

Special Note: • This is not an introductory class. Students must possess and demonstrate basic, safe gun handling. Failure to meet this requirement will result in removal from the course without a refund.

If you fail the shooting qualification for the Armed Guard or Armed Guard Recertification Class, you will have one (1) opportunity to reshoot. The fee is  $20.00  and the qualification course must be reshot within  30 days  of your original class date. You  must  schedule  your  reshoot with the front desk  by calling 615-360-6002.
