Dear Buford:

Since my county of residence is Davidson, I’m sure it will not surprise you to hear that the process of securing my Commission for Concealed Carry has finally come to a successful end, some four months after beginning the process. I have just returned from picking up my permit card.

While making the drive to the academy and back, I was prompted to mentally review the elements of the process that has taken so many months. I must tell you what stands out as the most satisfying and successful part of the experience was the training you provided in your handgun safety course.

Since attending your school, I have had many occasions in discussions with interested friends, to pass along the philosophy, the rules of engagement, and some of the savvy advice I learned from you during the classroom training. I consider the information you provided in the 8 hours of interesting lecture and discussion to be the best training I have yet encountered in my considerable experience with firearms. I suspect I remember so much of that training because you managed to make the material as interesting as you did.

And I must compliment you equally on the training provided by you and you staff during range qualification. You taught tactics and procedures I have never before encountered in my contacts with some of the most highly regarded combat shooters in the country.

As you know, I make my professional living appearing on national television as the expert on firearms and I work hard at living up to that role. After some four years as a firearm journalist, it is not easy for anyone to show me something I have not seen or learned. But you have done it, and I commend you for passing along your experience and your skill.

There is no question I would strongly recommend APPS training to anyone who wanted to improve his or her defensive handgun skills. And I will definitely be back to requalify with you in 1996.

I wish you and the staff the very best of success in continuing to train knowledgeable and effective shooters. There is no better way to preserve our Second Amendment Rights.

Cordially,

Jm Scoutten
